Welcome to the first entry of our development journal. There will be a poll at the end where you can vote whether you think this was written by an actual human or by an AI that’s listened to way too much Radiohead.
We’ve spent the past month ironing out some new features (announcement later) on the Spectral Delay pedal, ignoring the elephant in the room that is NAMM ‘23. Now that elephant is shouting in a shrill voice that we’re LATE, that we need some sort of memorable giveaway; something to dazzle all the music industry elites, each of whom are looking for a safer bet than what we have to offer. Harrison and I aren’t super interested in rehashing pedal designs. The world has too many “Klon Screamers” as it is. That being said, everyone loves a fuzz, and we figured the best way to keep a business card in someone’s hands is to put a fuzz on it.

How cute is that? I mean look at it—our crab logo (his name is Magnus) is hoisting the two transistors over his head like two thunderbolts. His eyeball flickers with…joy?...rage?... as the signal clips. The input and output are 3.5mm to further reduce the footprint, so adapters are required; a small tradeoff for the increased cuteness. Cute.

It sounds pretty rad. We used a combination of transistors and the LED to clip the signal, giving it a much grittier sound than a typical fuzz . The trim pot controls the tone (a modified Big Muff tone stack). There’s no bypass switch. For such a small pedal, it is unabashedly loud.
We’ll be giving away five of these bad boys on social media, so be sure to Like and Follow for updates. We also toyed with the idea of selling them for around $10. Leave a comment if you’re interested and we’ll get a batch made.
Anyway, don’t look for a Strange Loop Audio booth at NAMM. You won’t find one. Just get a high vantage point and play Where’s Waldo until you find me, come and say hi, and see if I’ve got any more of these fuzz contraptions. And as always, hit us up here or on Insta <3
